GSH - Glutathione - The Body's Master
Antioxidant
Did you know Glutathione also known as GSH, is the most powerful, prevalent
antioxidant in your body? Increasing your Glutathione
level will naturally increase your energy, detoxify your body
and significantly strengthen your immune system.
The Health-Report recommended
Patented Formula dramatically
increases intracellular levels of Glutathione/GSH.
Our recommended
patented natural formula,
developed by world renown Dr Robert
Keller, provides the proper nutrients needed to promote the body's own
ability to manufacture and utilise
glutathione. The formula also aids in liver support, thus
helping the liver to function as the main production site and
storehouse for glutathione.

The graph shows the increase in Glutathione
levels experienced by 4 groups of people.
Group 1 was tested after 6 months of use, while
Groups 2, 3 and 4 were tested after only 3 months of the
regimen.
The scientific data indicate the formula's effectiveness in
those who are stressed, aging, lacking sleep, or with any
prolonged illness. In these situations, the formula stimulates
the body's production of Glutathione to compensate for
the body's accelerated use of it, thereby strengthening your
natural defences, markedly decreasing your risk of illness,
increasing the body's ability to utilise whole food
antioxidants, whilst guarding against the effects of free
radicals on the body's aging process.
Increasing Age and Other Factors Reduce the
Body's Production and Utilization of Glutathione.
Scientific
research has shown that individuals who have low levels
of Glutathione are susceptible to chronic
illness. Research also shows that Glutathione
levels, steadily decline by 8% to 12% per decade,
beginning at the age of 20. Levels of Glutathione
are further reduced by continual stress upon the immune
system such as illness, infection, and environmental
toxins. As we now know, a lowered immune system
significantly increases the risk of chronic illness and
disease. This is a vicious cycle. While you need
Glutathione for a productive immune system, a
weakened immune system severely hampers the production
of Glutathione in the liver.
But did you know... Supplements Containing
Glutathione Alone Will NOT Increase The Body's
Glutathione Levels.
It's pointless to purchase supplements or
to eat foods that merely
contain Glutathione, because the digestive system
breaks down ingested Glutathione and it will NOT
be absorbed into your system at any significant level. On the other hand, the
Health-Report recommended product provides the proper
nutrients needed to promote the body's own ability to
manufacture and utilise Glutathione when it is
produced in the liver. This powerful,
patented
formula, also aids in liver support by destroying
environmental poisons, thereby substantially increasing the
liver's ability to function as the main production site and
storehouse for Glutathione.
Supplementation
Supplementing with
Glutathione in the past has been
difficult and remains difficult, as
scientific research shows that
Glutathione taken orally is NOT
well absorbed across the GI tract.
In a study of acute
oral administration of a VERY large dose
of 3
grams of oral glutathione, Witschi
and coworkers found that "it is NOT
possible to increase circulating
Glutathione to a clinically beneficial
extent by the oral administration of a
single dose of 3 g of glutathione."
Wikipedia
However, tissue and serum glutathione
concentrations can be raised
significantly by
increased intake of the precursor
cysteine, or in chronic conditions,
by
S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe).
Glutathione precursors rich in cysteine
include
N-acetylcysteine (NAC)
and
undenatured
whey protein, and these supplements have been shown to
increase glutathione content within the
cell. N-Acetylcysteine is a
generically available supplement which
has been demonstrated to increase
intracellular reduced and total
Glutathione by up to 92% and 58% respectively.
However, the patented
natural formula recommended by the
Health-Report team has been shown to
markedly increase the levels of
Glutathione in individuals suffering
chronic illness, by stimulating the
liver to produce glutathione, by
over 400% after just three months of
supplementation in one group of
individuals with compromised immune
systems.

The Research on Glutathione:
Glutathione
has been the subject of a very large degree of research for several decades.
Glutathione is found in many foods but the body cannot utilise it
properly. Some foods contain precursors for Glutathione, such as
cysteine, glycine and
N-acetylcysteine, but eating
sufficient quantities of these foods to markedly increase Glutathione
levels is very difficult to achieve. Seeing Glutathione is not well
absorbed into the body when taken by mouth or by eating whole foods,
many people have tried taking Glutathione intravenously with varied, but
mostly poor
results.
Some of the foods that contain precursors, such as
cysteine, for Glutathione
include poultry, wheat, broccoli, eggs, garlic, capsicum, red meat,
fish, dairy products, beans, fruits, vegetables, asparagus, avocado and
walnuts.
Essentially, Glutathione is a tri-peptide that is made up
of gamma-glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine, and is also known as
gamma-glutamylcysteinelglycine or GSH. Glutathione has been called the
body's master antioxidant with good reason, as it is found in every cell
of the body. Glutathione actively stimulates the action of ingested
antioxidants from whole foods and allows the proper utilisation of
phyto-nutrients vital for health and longevity. Put simply, if the level
of Glutathione in the body is too low, no amount of supplementation with
antioxidants will have a marked effect on the health of the individual.

Glutathione Facts:
Glutathione is a powerful regenerator of immune cells and is easily the
most important agent in keeping the body detoxified and healthy.
Glutathione is vitally important in the synthesis of DNA and the
maintenance DNA, the synthesis of protein and amino acids, so the body
can utilise them effectively. Also glutathione plays an important part
in the removal of synthetic chemical toxins and carcinogens
and resulting free radicals whilst playing a significant role in
optimising the immune system. In addition, it is essential in protecting
cells from oxidisation and activates enzymes vital for the removal of
all toxic build up at the cellular level.
Glutathione also has exceptionally strong antiviral effects. High levels
of glutathione in the body and subsequently in tissues and blood serum,
have been shown to inhibit and prevent the replication of virtually all
pathogens. By the same token, if the levels of glutathione are too low
in the body, the body is far more susceptible to virus and pathogen
invasion.

Dubious Marketing Practices:
Over the last few years a burgeoning new market for Glutathione has
evolved in the USA and in several other countries such as Canada the UK
and Australia, which has resulted from extremely well oiled marketing campaigns
surrounding a number of new Glutathione product launches. It seems the U.S. is in the grip of a "glutathione craze" due to a number
of intensive and expensive marketing programs, touting glutathione as the new
cure all for every disease going.
Some of the claims being made for supplementing with glutathione rich
foods and pills are
quite extraordinary ... including the curing of cancer. Although scientific
studies indicate increased levels of glutathione in the body do play a
very significant role in preventing degenerative disease and significant
levels of glutathione even
play a role in the reversal of metabolic
disease, the fact remains, the only way to significantly increase levels of glutathione in
the body is to stimulate the body to produce it via the liver. There is no
scientific research to back up some of the extraordinary and spurious claims
that are being made by some of the manufacturers and distributors of so
called glutathione supplements.
Yet, when the body is stimulated to produce glutathione naturally,
ample scientific evidence indicates that increased body levels of
glutathione do play an extremely important role in slowing up the aging
process and preventing degenerative diseases.
The increased level of active glutathione when ingested as a supplement,
is virtually non-existent after going through the body's own digestive
process and will have little or no effect or make any noticeable difference to the health of someone suffering
metabolic disease such as cancer.

Description: Did you know glutathione also
called GSH, is the most powerful and prevalent antioxidant in your
body and is rightfully called the master antioxidant. Increasing
your GSH levels will naturally help to increase your energy,
detoxify your body and strengthen your immune system which may help
to prevent the onset of metabolic disease and premature aging.
Without adequate levels of Glutathione in the body, recognised
SuperFoods which include Goji,
Mangosteen, Acai, Pomegranate, Coffee
Berry, Cacao, Raspberry, Olive Extract, Strawberry and other less
well known antioxidants, will not deliver full antioxidant benefits.
As we age, the levels of GSH in the blood stream, decline by
approximately ten percent per decade from around 20 years onwards.
At age 50 you may be operating on just 60 to 70% of the glutathione
levels when you were in your teens. It makes good sense to raise
glutathione levels naturally rather than taking GSH
intravenously.

Glutathione: Does it work?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly what is Glutathione (GSH) and should you be
supplementing with it?
In this day and age of "fast fixes" who wouldn't want
to get their hands on a natural substance which is capable of
boosting the immune system, detoxifying the body and acting as the
most powerful antioxidant in your body? A substance which can not
only repair cellular damage caused by stress, synthetic chemicals,
radiation and drugs, but also assist the body to cope with poor
diet, injury, burns and even slow up the aging process.
Well documented scientific research is showing us that
the body's master antioxidant, glutathione is capable of doing all
the above and much more. However, what is the evidence and what is
it that the experts are saying?
A handful of researchers are saying the antioxidant glutathione can
do all that and maybe more. But can you believe such sweeping
claims? What's the evidence to back them up? Here are what three
experts have to say:
Glutathione... what is it exactly?
"Glutathione is a very interesting, very small molecule that's
[produced by the body and] found in every cell, it's the [body's] most important antioxidant because it's
within the cell." Gustavo Bounous, MD, director of research and development at Immunotec
and a retired professor of surgery at McGill University in Montreal,
Canada.
Antioxidants - perhaps the best known synthetic vitamins are C and E,
along with numerous phytonutrients and antioxidants found in whole
foods - are vital for good health and longevity because they assist
the body to eliminate free radicals. Free radicals are formed in the
body when the body is subjected to toxins and stress. Even just the
act of breathing produces free radicals in the body... so it makes
sense to ensure the body has adequate levels of antioxidants
available at all times. Due to the fact that Glutathione exists
within the body, after being produced by the liver, it is the first
and most important line of defence the body has to fight metabolic
disease and the effects of aging. Glutathione has potentially,
extremely good and widespread benefits for the good health of
millions of people in the world.
Glutathione occurs naturally in many foods, however the body's own
digestive system destroys glutathione before it is able to be
absorbed. People who eat a natural balanced diet rich in
antioxidants don't need to worry too much about glutathione levels
in their early years as the body is producing adequate levels of it.
However, once you reach the age 20, the body's ability to produce
glutathione decreases at approximately 10% per decade. Those with
high intakes of natural (preferably organic) fruits and vegetables
are most likely to remain healthy for longer, than those with poor
diets based on manufactured and fast foods, as glutathione levels in
the blood stream will remain at healthy levels for longer when the
body is adequately nourished.
How Does Glutathione Help?
Glutathione is being called the body's master antioxidant and helps
to keep cells detoxified and healthy. Researchers into glutathione
such as Bounous and another glutathione expert, Jeremy Appleton, ND,
say it not only keeps cells running smoothly but also helps the liver remove
toxins from the body, such as synthetic drugs and pollutants.
Jeremy
Appleton is chairman of the department of nutrition at the National
College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Ore., and senior
science editor for Healthnotes, a database on complementary and
alternative medicine available at newspaper stands and health food
stores.
Studies of people who are severely ill, indicate conclusively that
glutathione plays a vital role in their recovery.
"If you look in a hospital situation at people who have cancer,
AIDS, or other very serious disease, almost invariably they are
depleted in glutathione," says Appleton. "The reasons for this are
not completely understood, but we do know that glutathione is
extremely important for maintaining intracellular health."
How Should Glutathione Be Taken?
It is now well established that Glutathione is NOT well assimilated when taken
by orally. Some doctors have tried intravenous applications of
glutathione with mixed results. It's not the best way to raise
glutathione levels. A much more
practical and easy solution used by some, is to take the precursors
of glutathione... that is the amino acids and molecules the body
needs to stimulate the production of glutathione in the liver,
instead of the glutathione itself. There is no solid proof, simply
taking random levels of the precursors actually works. There is
general
consensus however, among "experts" that doing so will generally increase glutathione
levels in the body.
Who Will be Helped By Glutathione?
Scientific studies carried out on animals and now on
humans demonstrate glutathione plays an extremely important role in
fighting disease, particularly degenerative diseases associated with
free radical damage and has the ability to dramatically slow up the
aging process..
"Theoretically, there are many very strong arguments in favor of a
therapeutic use of glutathione," says Appleton. "But when people
have actually tried to use glutathione as an oral supplement, nasal
spray, or intravenously, the results have been more of a preliminary
nature...."
Glutathione has been tried on a wide range of diseases
and conditions which include high blood pressure, Parkinson's
disease, Alzheimer's disease, cataracts, heart diseases and even
cancer. Studies conducted on cancer have yielded promising results
with one particular study on women with ovarian cancer who were
given glutathione intravenously. Those given the intravenous
glutathione had not only better survival rates but fewer effects
from chemo therapy.
Myriam Abalain of Montreal, Canada, is one of the many people who
have taken Bounous's Immunocal to combat cancer. In 1996, at age 33,
a routine PAP smear revealed she had precancerous cells on her
cervix, which is one step away from having cervical cancer. The
three specialists she visited all told her that a hysterectomy was
her only option, but she hesitated to have such major, life-altering
surgery.
Instead, she waited. For more than two years, her condition remained
stable. Then a friend suggested she try Immunocal. After eight
months of taking the supplement, her physician could no longer
detect any precancerous cells. Does this mean Immunocal cured her?
It's hard to say based on just one case like hers. It is possible
her body went into remission naturally.
Even Bounous acknowledges there's no real proof his product cured
her cancer, but he's working on conducting good clinical research,
comparing individuals with cancer taking glutathione to those who
are not.
http://www.hypermed.com.au/Updates/Glutathione
Are Their Risks?
Taking glutathione as a supplement is virtually risk free however as
mentioned previously, the benefits are negligible unless the
glutathione is actually injected. Using the precursors in reasonable
amounts does appear to impart worthwhile benefits but indiscriminate
use of precursors such as L Cysteine are not recommended unless
supervised by a health practitioner skilled in the use of specific
precursors. Glutathione ingestion and taken intravenously is
contraindicated when the patient has milk protein allergies and
those who may have received an organ transplant. There is no
evidence to suggest that a proprietary patented blend of glutathione
precursors has any contraindications in respect to the above
conditions.
Although some concern does exist in regard to taking
glutathione intravenously for cancer, little or no concern is
expressed when the patient can be stimulated to raise their own
glutathione levels by ingesting a measured dose of precursors.
"People don't get concerned about these health-promoting
[supplements] until they're in their 50s and 60s," says Emory's Dean
Jones. At that point, they may already have the initial precancerous
[cells]. Therefore, the supplements, just like they promote health
in normal tissues, might promote health in the precancerous tissue."
Appleton recognizes this possibility but says "there's no evidence
that supplementing with glutathione, even intravenously, is in any
way going to make any cancer worse. In fact, the evidence we have
suggests the opposite. It suggests that glutathione and other
antioxidants, far from interfering with the activity of
chemotherapy, appear to reduce side effects without decreasing
efficacy and may, in fact, improve the efficacy of the chemotherapy
in fighting cancer."
Bounous says his research has demonstrated that taking
glutathione precursors
actually lowers glutathione in cancer cells while increasing it in
normal cells. As a result, the cancer cells are more vulnerable to
chemotherapy, and the normal cells are protected.
As is the norm, the experts tend to disagree on who should take glutathione or
its precursors. There is no disputing the fact that glutathione
levels decrease as we age so it stands to reason we should consider
using a the precursors to stimulate the level of glutathione in the
body. Natural health advocates say everyone should take it in order to optimise
their overall health.
What they all acknowledge is that people with severe diseases known to be
associated with low glutathione levels, such as AIDS, may well
benefit from the supplementation of precursors.
