Network Marketing... often called Multi Level Marketing in the US... is perhaps one of the least understood methods of moving products and/or services into the market place. It is a system whereby the people who make word of mouth referrals... telling other people about a product or service... are rewarded for making the recommendation by the company producing the product or service. Around fifty years ago in the US, a small company was formed by a man producing a single cleaning product in his own garage. He surmised that on the basis of rewarding people who referred their friends and acquaintances to use the product he was producing, he would be able to steadily increase his sales without using capital for advertising. The bonuses paid for the referrals were made after the product was sold... therefore eliminating the risk of an unknown quantity i.e. whether the advertising would actually work or not.
From these inauspicious beginnings, with only one product to market, this man joined into a partnership with another and a new paradigm... network marketing... and a company many millions of people are now familiar with... Amway, was born. Simply by continuing to reward people to refer their friends and relatives the company grew to become the largest Network Marketing Company in the world with an annual turnover of around $7 to $8 billion today.
Perhaps this gives you some idea of how powerful word of mouth referrals can be. There are a number of Network Companies today with annual turnover exceeding a billion pounds.
This was the foundation of the world wide Network Marketing industry as we now know it. Today Network Marketing is recognised throughout the world as a legitimate and moral way for products to be moved into the market place whilst the individuals that make the referrals and distribute the products, are rewarded for their efforts. Even recognised and substantial conventional companies are embracing Network Marketing as an effective way to expand their customer bases. It is estimated that well in excess of 100 billion pounds in global business turnover is channelled through Network Marketing businesses.
Network companies supply a wide choice of products
Products you can buy through Network companies vary from chocolates and sweets through to petrol and cars with a gamut of products and services in between. Many network companies offer opportunities in the services industry like tele-communications whilst others concentrate on the health industry. Services as varied as health insurance to holidays... products from a fridge to a bottle of vitamin pills. Virtually all products and services, especially nutritional and health products, can be more effectively marketed by networking companies. Advertising overheads
Network companies do away with the enormous costs of advertising and associated overheads... the costs of distribution and retailing often running at 70% or more of the gross turnover conventional business operations... these savings are allocated to the distributor network for them to do all the marketing and servicing of customers for the Network Company. This allows the network company to concentrate on the manufacturing and warehousing of the products only and channel a large volume of their gross revenue into the distributor organisation.
This is money that conventional businesses and manufacturers would need to load onto the price of a product anyway to cover retailing, distribution and various other business overheads. You can imagine why a company like Ne ways... with a global turnover of £350 million pound... when it pays over £200 million in bonuses back to the distribution network to reward them for their marketing efforts... creates some very wealthy people from the networking opportunity.
The people who actually see the opportunity for what it is worth and are constantly making the referrals for the company and introducing others into their teams are the most rewarded. Reputable Network Marketing companies always incorporate leadership bonuses into their marketing plans. This in turn, enables business minded people who see the vast opportunity to exploit the full potential of the plan... to be entitled to back end bonuses from the company often amounting to many thousands of pounds per month.
Therefore as a distributor you are not only rewarded for making a simple referral to a friend, you are also rewarded by the company for helping and training others to understand the system and teaching them how to do the same thing as you are.
Networking is a low cost entry to home business
Network Marketing offers a very low-cost entry into the business world. However, the returns for individuals who set out to operate their own network home business professionally can be enormous. Many people start on a part-time basis and later develop their home business into a full time operation. Network Marketing is the only business opportunity where you will not need to outlay a large sum of money to start the business. Although the entry fee is ridiculously low in most cases of genuine work from home network opportunity, the actual returns can accumulate to many thousands of pounds per month.
Network Marketing versus Pyramid Selling
A common mistake made by many people here in the UK is to confuse genuine Network Marketing with the illegal pyramid scams of the 60s and 70s. Large numbers of people lost large amounts of money and ended up with garages full of expensive stock they couldn't sell.
Beware!
If you are asked to pay a substantial amount of money to get started in a trading scheme then it is probably illegal. Many pyramid schemes although illegal, still exist on the Internet and some Network companies right here in the UK sail very close to the wind as far as legality is concerned. If you are asked to pay a substantial amount to get started... then I suggest the person doing the sponsoring or recruiting is pocketing a good percentage of the starting price you are paying. This is called front end loading and is a very bad business to start in as it is difficult for the average person to make work!
Invariably new distributors lose their money in these schemes because their sponsor is only interested in recruiting to pocket wholesale bonuses either paid by the company or paid directly by the new distributor. They, the slick sales type recruiters, simply aren't interested in helping you to make money yourself. Ultimately these trading schemes fail because they run out of gullible people. It may take many years however, and destroy the credibility of networking for countless hundreds of people who have been seriously burned by buying expensive stock they cannot sell!

There are two reasons for doing this.
The material you receive is the genuine company produced literature in PDF Format which is readily emailed to you. It is NOT a photocopied and poorly put together posted pack that only tells you part of the story. Free posted information direct from a cash strapped distributor may well be misleading in many ways.
Sending free information is not a duplicable system for Independent Distributors. Most distributors run out of money doing this and fail to duplicate this expensive way of running their business. Economising by sending only part of the information results in fewer... if any sign ups due to the fact the opportunity seeker cannot make an informed decision based on the poor information received. If you were an Independent Distributor and sending out FREE posted information to all that asked for it, then how long would your budget last at say £5 per pop plus postage... a hundred packs?... two hundred?
It is a proven fact that less than 2% of people asking for FREE information actually do anything with it. In the meantime on top of the cost of sending the packs you will need to do follow up calls and chase up people on a regular basis by phone. Unless you commit to at least four follow ups per person you may not sponsor one person from 100 FREE info packs.
Perhaps you may realise now that "FREE "is not necessarily "FREE" in this case! If you were lucky enough to sponsor two people from a hundred "FREE" packs sent out then these two people alone would have cost you £250 each! How long do you think it would take for these two people to realise that sending "FREE" information isn't a viable proposition and simply give up?
If a trading scheme is offering "FREE" information but asking a large start up price... THINK AGAIN! you will find this method of operation is only duplicable by the experienced sales type recruiters that seem to gravitate to these network/pyramid programs. The average person starting in one of these high cost programs will invariably fail and bad mouth Network Marketing for the rest of their lives.
