Dr. Albert Y. Leung, an internationally renowned pharmacognosist (a scientist who specializes in botanicals). He holds a B.S. in Pharmacy from the National Taiwan University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Pharmacognosy from the University of Michigan.
He is the author of ENCYCLOPEDIA OF COMMON NATURAL INGREDIENTS USED IN FOOD, DRUGS AND COSMETICS (Wiley-Interscience, NewYork; first published in 1980 & revised in 1998), which has been the classic reference in this field for the past 2 decades. He is also the editor of LEUNG’S CHINESE HERB NEWS (ISSN #1523-5017), a newsletter highly valued by scientists and researchers who are interested in the hard truth about herbs.
Dr. Leung is one of a handful of scientists in the world who has the unique training, experience, and knowledge to differentiate genuine herbal ingredients from dubious ones, irrespective of how "scientific" their names may sound. For 25 years, he has been an advocate of product quality in the herbal industry, and is known for his no-nonsense approach, clearly reflected in his writing style.
